Artist's Comments

I found a great hi-res photo of Evanescence online and just had to draw it. I plan on doing a regular graphite drawing of the whole group, but I just wanted Amy Lee in the color version. Here's the link to the original photo - [link]

This was the first full drawing with my new Prismacolor water color pencils. I also used my white gel pen in places, but it doesn't like watercolors much. It was very uncooperative. I think it turned out great for my first picture with those pencils.

I had a hard time classifying it though. Painting or drawing. I only used two brushes with water, so I think it was more drawing.

If I can find a really thin brush or my fine point sharpie, I plan on adding more individual hairs, but for now it's done. Comments and critiques are always welcome.

Amazing work on her hair  And also on the use of the tones! :) The only thing is that the face looks a bit weird, but I'm not sure why :S

Great work in general, though :D

Wow, it looks scary :O Good work on the drawing though. The skull looks really good and there are so many details... I think you could have blended the shading a bit more in places (like the background) but I don't knoe how easy that is in water colour pencils. If you get back on it you might want to add a little detail to the hairline, it looks a bit unnatural. But you did a really good job, I still haven't tried coloured pencils although I planned to for ages :shakefist: I love Evanescence, btw, maybe I'll give it a go, too :D

i love this in general theirs only one thing id change on the right side of her face the black shading should be more grey other than that its perfect and i love it.

It is good for your first time  I find with watercolour pencils it's best to layer on the colours as you would do with normal pencils so you're not relying on the water to make the colours spread further - water is unreliable and makes things blotchy! The skull is particularly well detailed :)

I really like this picture of Amy Lee and the fact you were able to do this with watercolor pencils speaks volumes to me. kudos.

I love the drawing.
But the face is weird. It's a total different color than the rest of her skin. It suits not with the rest of the drawing.
But I really love the table and the things on it.
Nice work.
